Portea petropolitana tall branching pink and violet inflorescence above long arching leaves

Portea petropolitana

Portea petropolitana is a large bromeliad native to southeastern Brazil. Broad, arching leaves form a substantial rosette that holds water near its center. A tall branched inflorescence rises above the foliage and carries pink bracts, violet flowers, and later dark berry-like fruits. The species grows in warm, humid conditions and can tolerate strong filtered light when its root zone remains freely draining. Photographed in Florida.
