Podranea ricasoliana (Pink Trumpet Vine)
An evergreen woody climber native to southern tropical Africa and southern Africa, Podranea ricasoliana, or Pink Trumpet Vine, belongs to the Bignoniaceae family. It has glossy compound leaves and lacks tendrils. Fragrant pink flowers with darker streaks in their throats grow in clusters at the branch tips. Long, narrow seed capsules contain flat, winged seeds. The species has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. It is listed as an environmental weed in parts of Australia and has naturalized in New Zealand and Hawaii. Photographed in Armenia, Colombia.
