Podranea brycei

A scrambling shrub native to Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, Podranea brycei belongs to the Bignoniaceae family and grows in seasonally dry tropical habitats. Its compound leaves have four to seven pairs of narrow, pointed leaflets and a terminal leaflet. Branched flower clusters develop at the ends of the stems. The mauve-pink flowers have five rounded lobes and darker reddish streaks inside their hairy throats. Long, narrow capsules contain winged seeds. Photographed in Colombia and Florida.
