Pitcairnia nigra dense upright inflorescence with red flowers and dark maroon bracts

Pitcairnia nigra

Pitcairnia nigra is a terrestrial bromeliad native to Ecuador. A tall upright inflorescence rises above the basal foliage and carries red tubular flowers among dark maroon bracts. Research-grade observations document the species widely in Ecuador’s humid Andean vegetation. Its dark bracts remain closely appressed to the floral axis and provide a strong contrast with the projecting red corollas. Photographed in Colombia.
