Pitcairnia imbricata

Pitcairnia imbricata is a terrestrial bromeliad native to Central America. Its soft green leaves arise from the base, and the flowering stalk carries overlapping bracts around a cluster of pale tubular flowers. The species favors humid tropical habitats and differs from many epiphytic bromeliads by rooting directly in soil or rocky material. Photographed in Florida.
