Phyllanthus salviifolius
A small tree native from Costa Rica to northwestern Venezuela and Peru, it belongs to the Phyllanthaceae family. It grows in wet montane forests and at forest margins. Its simple leaves are arranged in two rows along the branches, giving the appearance of compound foliage. The small flowers hang from the leaf axils and have greenish, pink, or reddish sepals. The fruits are capsules that split open when mature. Photographed in the eastern Andes mountain range of Colombia.
