Passiflora maliformis

.Originating from the Caribbean and extending to Ecuador, this vine thrives predominantly in wet tropical biomes. It is known as a liana, a type of long-stemmed, woody vine that is rooted in the soil at ground level and uses trees, as well as other means of vertical support, to climb up to the sunlight in the forest canopy. The fruit it bears is unique, with a hard rind encasing a greyed-yellow to orange pulp that is aromatically scented and flavored with a hard skin with a taste likened to that of a grape when eaten raw or made into a drink. Photographed in the department of Quindio, Colombia.
