Oncidium harryanum
Native from Colombia to Peru, this perennial epiphytic orchid grows in cool, moist Andean forests. In Colombia, it is recorded between about 5,900 and 8,200 feet. Its compressed pseudobulbs carry two leaves, and arching flower stems produce several large, fragrant flowers. Brown-marked petals and sepals contrast with the pale lip, often colored purple near its base. The waxy flowers are long-lasting and commonly appear in winter or early spring. The flowers often do not open completely, leaving the petals and sepals curved inward. Photographed in Colombia.
