Minthostachys mollis
Native from Venezuela through western South America, this aromatic perennial shrub grows in subtropical Andean habitats. It is commonly called muƱa or poleo and can reach about six and a half feet tall. Small white to cream flowers develop in tight clusters at the leaf axils. Its strongly mint-scented foliage has traditionally been used for flavouring and herbal teas. Its concentrated essential oil can be toxic, particularly in large amounts. Photographed in Colombia.
