Leucanthemum × superbum (Shasta Daisy)

Developed in cultivation through crosses between daisy species, this clump-forming herbaceous perennial is grown in gardens and for cut flowers. Cultivars range from single flowers to double and frilly forms, usually with white ray flowers surrounding a yellow central disk. Breeding has produced varied heights and flower shapes; cultivars such as ‘Wirral Supreme’ have received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. It attracts bees and butterflies. New plants can be propagated by dividing established clumps. It is mildly toxic if eaten and can cause skin irritation. Photographed in the Cocora Valley, Colombia.
