Native to Belize, Central American Pacific Is., Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and El Salvador and nearby regions, this is an herbaceous plant in the Gesneriaceae family. It grows in habitats ranging from seaside locations to mountainous forests in the wet tropical biome. There are numerous hybrids and cultivars offering a variety of color, size, and leaf variation. Photographed in the central Andes mountain range of Colombia.
