Justicia floribunda has slender nodding flowers with red bases and yellow tips beside glossy dark leaves

Justicia floribunda (Brazilian Fuchsia)

Native to Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, this compact, bushy shrub is grown for its long display of small tubular flowers. Nodding clusters carry blossoms with scarlet bases and yellow tips. Small, oval, dark green leaves cover the branching stems. It grows about 2 feet tall. Cuttings provide new plants. Despite its common name, it belongs to the acanthus family rather than the true fuchsias. Photographed in Peru.
