Jasminum sambac (Arabian Jasmine)
Native from Bhutan to India, this plant is an evergreen scrambling shrub cultivated widely in tropical regions. Its strongly fragrant white flowers include single and double forms. The flowers are used to scent tea, make garlands and produce fragrance extracts for perfumery. In the Philippines, where it is known as sampaguita, it is the national flower. The Royal Horticultural Society awarded the species the Award of Garden Merit. Photographed in Barranquilla, Colombia.
