Jasminum multiflorum (Star Jasmine)

Originating from the Indian subcontinent the Star Jasmine has found its way to various tropical and subtropical regions as an ornamental shrub. The white flowers lack the typical jasmine fragrance. Traditional use employs its leaves, roots, flowers, and fruits for an array of ailments including fever, cough, and abdominal distention, among others. Additionally, scientific studies have delved into its potential against conditions like hepatocellular carcinoma cells infected with hepatitis C virus. Star Jasmine has been flagged as invasive in Puerto Rico and Florida. Photographed in Jamundi, Colombia.
