Ixora chinensis (Chinese Ixora)

Native from southeastern China through Indochina and in the Philippines, this plant is a shrub of wet tropical habitats. Its dense, terminal flower clusters carry long-tubed flowers with four broadly rounded lobes, usually red or reddish yellow. Small, rounded fruits ripen reddish black. Widely cultivated in gardens, it has also naturalised in Colombia. Indian botanical records report flowering and fruiting throughout the year. Photographed in Barranquilla, Colombia.
