Iris japonica

Native to China North-Central, China South-Central, China Southeast, Hainan, Japan, and Myanmar and nearby regions, this is an herbaceous plant in the Iridaceae family. It grows in woodland. With rhizomatous roots, it grows up to 10-12″ tall in forest margins and wet grasslands. Its bloom period occurs between April and May, showcasing a palette ranging from white and pale blue to purple, often with an orange or yellow crest​. The species has garnered attention for its ornamental appeal, especially in temperate regions. Cultivars, provide unique color variations and foliage and an Award of Garden Merit​.
