Hoya australis has thick creamy white star-shaped flowers with burgundy centers and pale raised central crowns

Hoya australis (Common Waxflower)

Native from Borneo and Sulawesi to New Guinea, Australia and the southwestern Pacific, this twining vine grows on trees or scrambles over rocks and logs. It has thick, leathery or fleshy leaves and rounded clusters of fragrant white flowers with reddish centers. Flowering stalks can produce new clusters in subsequent years. In Australia, its leaves feed caterpillars of the common crow butterfly. It is grown in containers, hanging baskets and on trellises, and has been introduced to Cuba and Puerto Rico. Photographed in Colombia.
