Hibiscus mutabilis

Native to tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, this genus includes shrubs, small trees, and annual or perennial herbs. Large funnel-shaped flowers occur in many colors, with garden forms offering single or double blooms. Individual flowers often last only a day, but plants can bloom over a long period; tropical garden forms flower nearly year-round in South Florida, United States. Some members have another unusual feature: Hibiscus mutabilis flowers can open white and deepen to pink as they age. Photographed in the Valley of Cauca, Colombia.
