Hemerocallis fulva (Day Lily)

Native to the southeastern Alps and from Siberia to temperate eastern Asia, this genus includes clump-forming perennial herbs with arching leaves. Most flowers last only a day, but successive buds extend the display. Garden varieties offer many colors and shapes, including smooth or ruffled petals. They are highly toxic to cats. Some members are invasive: orange daylily (Hemerocallis fulva) has escaped cultivation in parts of the eastern United States. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
