Heliotropium arboreum
Native across tropical coasts from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific, it is an evergreen shrub or small tree adapted to salt spray, wind, and sandy shorelines. Broad gray-green leaves cluster near branch tips. Fragrant white flowers attract bees and butterflies. The small fruits can float when dry, allowing dispersal by sea. It helps stabilize sandy coastlines and provides shelter and nesting sites for seabirds. Photographed in Florida.
