Halenia umbellata has clusters of pale yellow-green four-lobed flowers with narrow spurs above opposite green leaves

Halenia umbellata

Native to Peru and western Bolivia, this tuft-forming perennial herb grows in moist high Andean grasslands. It reaches about eight inches tall. Upright, four-sided stems carry opposite, narrow, pointed leaves. Green to yellow-green flowers gather in umbrella-like clusters at the stem tips. Each flower has four lobes and a slender spur extending from the base of each petal. Yellow anthers sit within the flower. In Bolivia, it grows at about 9,800 to 14,800 feet. The fruit is a curved capsule that opens into two valves when mature. Photographed in Peru.
