Two purple Grewia flowers have narrow sepals and prominent yellow anthers

Grewia occidentalis

Native to tropical and subtropical Africa, Asia, Australasia, and Pacific islands, this genus includes shrubs and small trees, some with a scrambling habit. Leaves often have toothed margins and several strong veins arising from the base. The flowers have numerous stamens and five petals that are usually shorter than the sepals; colors range from white and yellow to pink and purple. Fruits are often lobed. One garden species, Grewia occidentalis, produces edible fruits eaten by birds and supports butterfly caterpillars on its leaves. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
