Goeppertia rufibarba
Endemic to Bahia in northeastern Brazil, this evergreen herbaceous perennial forms clumps about one and a half to three feet tall. Its long, wavy leaves are glossy green above and purple-tinged beneath. Reddish hairs cover the leaf stalks and midribs, giving the foliage a soft texture. It is widely grown as a houseplant. New plants can be propagated by dividing established clumps. Photographed in MedellĂn, Colombia.
