Glycosmis parviflora (Chinese Glycosmis)
Native to parts of China, Japan, Taiwan, Myanmar and northern Vietnam, this evergreen shrub or small tree grows in woods. Leaves usually have several elliptic to lance-shaped leaflets, though single-leaflet forms also occur. Small white flowers develop in clusters. Rounded to ellipsoid fruits change from pale yellowish white or pink to reddish tones as they ripen and usually contain two or three seeds. Insects pollinate the flowers, and the fruits attract birds. It also serves as a butterfly larval host plant. It has naturalized in disturbed hammocks in southern Florida. Photographed in Florida.
