Glossoloma tetragonoides
Native to Colombia, Ecuador and northern Peru, this upright herb or subshrub grows in shaded, moist forests. Mostly unbranched stems carry opposite, broad leaves with finely toothed margins. Several pendant flowers develop at the leaf nodes. Folded calyx lobes may be green or red, and the tubular corollas can be red, yellow or yellow with red tips. The flowers turn over as they develop. Fleshy capsules open into two spreading valves, releasing numerous small seeds. Photographed in Colombia.
