Glossoloma schultzei
Native from Colombia to northwestern Venezuela and central Peru, it is a terrestrial shrub or subshrub of humid foothill and mountain forests. Its upright, usually unbranched stems can reach about ten feet tall. Dense yellow-brown hairs cover the stems and young leaves. Tubular red or red-orange flowers hang in clusters from the leaf axils, surrounded by prominent red calyx lobes. Flowering has been recorded throughout the year. Its fleshy capsules split into two valves that fold back to expose numerous small seeds. Photographed in Colombia.
