Originating from the tropical forests of the Americas, the Genipap is a semi-deciduous tree that yields an exotic fruit known for its medicinal properties in Amazonian pharmacopeia to treat conditions like anemia, measles, and uterine cancer. Furthermore, it's utilized as a diuretic, digestive, healing, laxative, and antiseptic. The unripe fruit provides a liquid used as a dye for tattoos and skin painting, besides serving as an insect repellent. When ripe, the fruit is consumed in various forms, including preserves, drinks, jelly, and ice cream. The wood of Genipa Americana is valued for its resistance, strength, and ease of work. Photographed in the department of Santander, Colombia.
