Geissanthus bogotensis
Native to the Andes of Colombia and Ecuador, this plant grows as a shrub or tree in moist mountain forests. It can reach about sixteen to thirty-three feet tall and grows beside rivers as well as in forest. Small flowers gather in branching clusters at the ends of the stems; each flower has five white petals, a green calyx and yellow anthers. The drooping fruit clusters bear small fleshy drupes that turn from green to dark purple when ripe. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
