Eucalyptus pilularis
Native to coastal eastern Australia, this tall tree occurs in wet forests and grassy coastal woodlands from New South Wales into Queensland. It can reach about two hundred and thirty feet tall. The lower trunk retains fibrous bark, while the upper trunk and branches shed bark in long ribbons. Flower buds occur in groups of seven or more, followed by rounded woody capsules with enclosed valves. Photographed in Colombia.
