Eucalyptus globulus
Native to Tasmania and southern Victoria in Australia, this tall tree can reach about two hundred feet in favourable conditions. Rounded juvenile foliage gives the species its common name, blue gum, while mature leaves become sickle-shaped. Ribbed flower buds shed a cap to expose numerous white stamens. Large woody capsules release many small seeds. The species supplies timber, paper pulp, and essential oil. It is invasive in parts of California, United States. Photographed in Colombia.
