Originating from the southern realms of South America,  the bush has rosy-red or scarlet-pink flowers. It has found its way to gardens far beyond its native borders with several cultivars and hybrids having been developed. Certain cultivars have been recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society with the Award of Garden Merit. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia and Quito, Ecuador.
