Epidendrum radicans

Native to the Americas from the southeastern United States to Argentina, this genus includes orchids that grow on trees, rocks, or directly in the ground. Members occupy a wide range of habitats, and their flowers vary greatly in size, number, and color. Stems may stand upright, creep, or hang, with leaves ranging from fleshy to leathery. A distinctive feature is the flower’s lip, which joins the central column to form a nectar tube. Photographed in Pereira, Colombia.
