Encyclia adenocarpos

Native to Mexico, this orchid grows on tree bark and sometimes on rocks in seasonally dry tropical habitats. Its pear-shaped pseudobulbs bear slender, elongated leaves. The flower stalks and ovaries have a finely dotted or roughened surface, a feature reflected in the species name. In the flowers, the lip and column fit closely together. Plants can be found growing naturally on trees in the Pacific coastal region of Mexico and are also maintained in botanical collections. Photographed in Florida.
