Dendrobium crumenatum is an epiphytic orchid species native to tropical Asia and extending into parts of northern Australia. Characterized by its slender, upright pseudobulbs and alternating lanceolate leaves, the plant produces clusters of delicate white flowers marked by a yellow patch on the lip. Each bloom is short-lived, typically lasting only a single day, but the species is remarkable for its synchronized mass flowering events. These events are triggered by sudden drops in temperature following heavy rain, leading to spectacular displays where thousands of flowers can bloom simultaneously across large areas. The flowers are lightly fragrant and attract a variety of insect pollinators. Photographed in Florida.
