Cymbosema roseum

Native from southeastern Mexico through Central America to tropical South America, it is a climbing vine of humid forests. Its leaves consist of three oval to elliptical leaflets covered with fine hairs. Flower clusters arise from the leaf axils, with one to three red flowers at each node. The flowers have a bell-shaped calyx with four lobes and a short banner petal above longer wing and keel petals. Its oblong, curved seed pods have a downward-bending beak and contain two to six seeds. It is rare in the southern Atlantic region of Nicaragua. Photographed in Panama.
