Bright magenta flower of Cuphea cordata with two large rounded petals and protruding pink stamens
Cuphea cordata

Cuphea cordata is native to Bolivia and Peru. The striking flowers feature two prominent, heart-shaped petals of vivid magenta or red and an elongated floral tube with stamens that extend outward. The shape of the flower gives the species its epithet cordata, meaning "heart-shaped," which refers to the distinctive form of its upper petals. Photographed in Peru.
