Cuphea cordata
Cuphea cordata is native to Bolivia and Peru. The striking flowers feature two prominent, heart-shaped petals of vivid magenta or red and an elongated floral tube with stamens that extend outward. The shape of the flower gives the species its epithet cordata, meaning "heart-shaped," which refers to the distinctive form of its upper petals. Photographed in Peru.
