Cuphea carthagenensis is native to South America. It thrives in open fields, roadsides, and disturbed areas, often growing as a perennial herb in warm, humid regions. This species develops upright stems with dense hairs and bears small tubular flowers that open into six narrow petals, typically purple to violet in color, with a distinctive hairy calyx. Traditionally, Cuphea carthagenensis has been used in folk medicine across parts of Brazil and Argentina. Decoctions of its aerial parts have been employed as a diuretic and to address ailments related to kidney and urinary conditions.
