Couroupita guianensis (Cannonball Tree)

The Cannonball Tree is a captivating species native to the tropical forests of Central and South America and has been cultivated in tropical regions worldwide. This tree is renowned for its unique and striking appearance, characterized by large, spherical fruits resembling cannonballs, hanging directly from the trunk and main branches. These fruits, which can reach up to 8 inches in diameter, house seeds enveloped in a fragrant, pulpous material. The Cannonball Tree produces large, aromatic flowers, predominantly red, orange, and pink in hue.  Can be seen as a street tree in Cali, Colombia. Photographed in the eastern Andes mountain range of Colombia (Cordillera Oriental).
