Cordia dentata
Native from Mexico through Central America, the Caribbean and parts of tropical South America, this plant is a shrub or tree growing in seasonally dry tropical forest. Its alternate leaves are broadly oval to rounded, with irregularly toothed edges and a rough upper surface. Branched flower clusters form at the stem tips, with their smaller branches often curving at the ends. The small, funnel-shaped flowers range from yellow to cream or white and have five spreading lobes and five stamens. The fleshy fruits become translucent white and have sticky pulp surrounding a hard inner stone. They are eaten locally, and the plant is also cultivated for its flowers. Photographed on the Caribbean coast of Colombia.
