Consolea corallicola
Consolea corallicola, a rare cactus species, is native to southern Florida, particularly the Florida Keys, and is recognized as federally endangered in the United States. It grows in coastal habitats on coral limestone substrates, often in areas with high light exposure and limited soil depth. The plant is a shrubby cactus that develops flattened, segmented pads with numerous long, rigid spines. It produces striking flowers in vivid shades of red to orange, each opening during the day and attracting pollinators. Following flowering, it forms fleshy fruits. Photographed in Florida.
