A Combretum rotundifolium flower spike with dense clusters of long yellow stamens tipped red emerging from red bracts surrounded by glossy green leaves
Combretum rotundifolium

Combretum rotundifolium is native to northern tropical South America. This climbing woody vine is distinguished by its dramatic inflorescences, which form dense cylindrical spikes up to several inches long. The flowers emerge from red bracts and produce masses of elongated stamens that are bright yellow near the base and shift to orange or scarlet toward the tips, creating a vivid flame-like appearance. Photographed in Ecuador.
