Cissopis leverianus is a striking bird native to South America. It is often found near freshwater habitats such as rivers, marshes, and wet meadows, where dense vegetation and reeds provide ample cover and feeding opportunities. This bird favors lowland tropical environments and generally stays below elevations of 3,300 feet. The black-capped donacobius is known for its black head cap, bright yellow eyes, and a long tail with white tips. Its tail is often held in an upright position. This species is also notable for its vocalizations. Often observed in pairs or small family groups, individuals engage in duet singing, producing complex and loud calls, especially during early mornings. This vocal communication is thought to play a role in territory establishment and pair bonding, making it a particularly vocal and conspicuous bird within its habitat. Currently, the black-capped donacobius is not considered endangered and is relatively abundant in suitable habitats throughout its range.
