Chamaedorea seifrizii

Native to Mexico and Central America, this clumping palm grows in moist and seasonally dry forests, often on limestone. Its slender stems have rings left by fallen leaves, giving them a bamboo-like appearance. Feather-shaped leaves carry shiny, dark green leaflets. Male and female flowers grow on separate plants, followed by small black fruits on the female palms. The fruit flesh can irritate the skin. Its tolerance of shade and seasonal dryness has made it a popular indoor palm and an ornamental in warm gardens. Photographed in the department of Quindio, Colombia.
