The White-vented Plumeleteer is a species of hummingbird belonging to the "emeralds" tribe Trochilini within the subfamily Trochilinae. This bird, with a length ranging from 4.1 to 4.7 inches, is primarily found across a variety of landscapes in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. Subspecies of the White-vented Plumeleteer have distinct distributions: C. b. micans is found in central and eastern Panama, western Colombia, and along Colombia's Cauca River and upper Magdalena River valleys. C. b. buffonii occupies central Colombia's upper and middle Magdalena valley, extending into northwestern Venezuela. C. b. aeneicauda is located in Colombia's lower Magdalena valley and the Santa Marta region, and further into western and north-central Venezuela. Lastly, C. b. caeruleogaster is found on the eastern slope of Colombia's Eastern Andes.
