Chaetogastra ciliaris
Native to Costa Rica, Colombia, and Ecuador, this shrub in the melastome family grows in moist Andean habitats and open mountain vegetation. In Colombia, it occurs between about 3,600 and 8,850 feet. Its simple leaves grow in opposite pairs, and small white flowers develop in clusters at the ends of branches. The fruits are dry capsules that open to release seeds.
