cerro de Monserrate
Cerro de Monserrate, Bogotá

For about eight dollars, a cable car will take you to the top of a 10,300-foot mountain where you can eat at a good restaurant, walk the scenic gardens and view the fantastic reach of Bogotá. Monserrate Monastery is a 100-year-old church that replaced one destroyed by an earthquake, and higher up is a section designated for vendors where you can buy products made from coco leaves such as tea, wine, soda, liquor, and souvenirs. The indigenous Indians are allowed to sell coco products, however, you would not be allowed to bring these items into the States. Monserrate may have the highest percentage of foreigners you will find in one place in Colombia.
