Calystegia sepium (Hedge Bindweed)

A vine that originates from North America but has since found its way across the globe due to its aggressive and invasive nature. In the realm of traditional medicine, it's utilized for treating skin conditions and wounds. Moreover, the roots possess certain medicinal attributes including acting as a demulcent, diuretic, febrifuge, poultice, and a strong purgative aiding in digestive processes. The stalks and roots, are edible when cooked, offering a sweet taste and a nutritious profile rich in starch and sugars. Despite these benefits, it's not a common part of the diet due to its potential purgative effects. Photographed in the department of Atlántico, Colombia.
