Originating from the tropical areas of Central and South America, with a habitat between 6,200 and 10,500 feet.  Medicinally,  the bark has been utilized for its analgesic properties, while the latex from the plant has been used to treat skin conditions. Photographed in the central Andes mountain range of Colombia (Cordillera Central).
