A Billbergia nutans inflorescence with rose-pink bracts and green with pink and blue flowers and yellow stamens
Billbergia nutans (Queen's-tears)

Queen's-tears is endemic to the lush landscapes of southeastern South America. Its pendulous inflorescences dangle gracefully from sturdy stems have made it a popular choice as an ornamental plant. The blossoms display an enchanting palette of pink, purple, or blue-green, with elongated yellow stamens lending a rainbow-like appearance to the entire bloom. Queen's-tears has been recognized for centuries for its medicinal properties. Indigenous people in South America have traditionally used extracts from the plant to treat various ailments, including digestive issues and skin irritations. Modern science has since confirmed the presence of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and phenolic acids in these extracts, which may account for their therapeutic effects.. Photographed in the department of Quindio, Colombia.
