A climbing Bignoniaceae vine covers supporting vegetation with green leaves and numerous purple flowers

Bignoniaceae (Trumpet-Vine Family) (species unidentified)

This woody climbing vine belongs to a family found mainly in tropical regions worldwide. Many of its American climbing members have opposite, compound leaves, with a leaflet modified into a tendril that grips surrounding vegetation. Most produce dry capsules that split open to release winged seeds carried by the wind. These vines form an important part of tropical forest vegetation. Photographed in Colombia.
